Welcome!
Welcome to the University of Florida Health Science Center, which consists of six colleges that work in close collaboration with Shands HealthCare. Although the HSC and Shands are distinct legal entities, we work together as UF&Shands, the University of Florida Academic Health Center. Our mission is to promote health through outstanding patient care, innovative and rigorous education in the health professions and biomedical sciences, and high-impact research across the spectrum of basic, translational and clinical investigation.

As stated in our Strategic Plan (http://forwardtogether.health.ufl.edu/), our vision for UF&Shands is that:
“Together we strive to create unstoppable momentum toward the goal of improving individual and community health through discovery, clinical and translational science and technology, exceptional education, and patient-centered, innovative, high-quality health care.”
The work that you have done since this statement was published in May 2010 has contributed toward achieving this vision in a progressive manner, year by year. 2012 will be a year in which we gain further momentum toward becoming “unstoppable.” This is our vision as we move Forward Together.

UF Tobacco Free
To promote the health and well-being of faculty, staff, and students, the University of Florida is tobacco-free. The use of cigarettes or other tobacco products in UF buildings, parking lots, or in vehicles in these areas is prohibited. UF's Health Science Center and Shands HealthCare facilities had introduced this policy earlier.
Tobacco dependence is our nation' s most preventable cause of death and disease, including cancer. If you would like to kick the habit, help is available! A Web site has been created to point employees to a number of resources designed to assist them and their loved ones to stop smoking. Please visit the site today for information about counseling services, self-help materials, and medicines to help smokers quit successfully.
