HSC Acceptable Use Policies
Jun 24 2008Jan J. van der Aa, Ph.D.
Assistant Vice President for Information Services/CIO
Inappropriate use of IT resources may lead to information security breaches. These breaches can introduce legal risk, damage the University's reputation, or cause productivity loss.
You can help:
- Do not install any software that has not been approved by your Unit.
- Store only business-related data on University servers.
- Do not download or save non-business related material such as music, video, pictures, etc., onto network drives you share with others.
- When permitted, material such as music, video, pictures, etc., should be kept on removable media (e.g., CD, or USB drive) or on your local workstation's disk drive.
- Remove any non-business related material such as music, video, pictures, etc., from your email.
- Only visit Web sites pertinent to your job. Check with your Unit and your supervisor regarding rules or guidelines about personal use of the Web.
Violating acceptable use policies may result in work being lost, malfunctioning or broken computers, suspended network privileges, or disciplinary or even legal actions.
The HSC-wide policies, additional guidance and case discussions are published at http://www.health.ufl.edu/aiss/aup/. The documents detail limits and acceptable and required behaviors when using Information Technology resources.
Your Unit (i.e., College, department or division) may have adopted more stringent policies and limits than the HSC-wide policies, in which case the more stringent policies apply. Please check with your supervisor for details. If you are not sure what you can and can not do, contact your local IT support group or your supervisor.
